Testimonials

Below are a number of tesimonials recieved from the family members of people attending our sevice

I cannot speak highly enough of the support that Handle with Care provided to my family during what was a very challenging time.

My dad attended the day service at Hollingwood for a couple of years while living with dementia, and the positive impact it had on his quality of life was clear to see. He was always treated with kindness, dignity and genuine compassion by the staff, who took the time to understand him as an individual. The activities, social interaction and stimulating environment gave him enjoyment, purpose and friendship at a time when these things became increasingly difficult to find elsewhere.

The support extended far beyond my dad. As my mum was his main carer, the service also provided her with much-needed respite, reassurance and emotional support. Knowing that Dad was safe, cared for and happy gave Mum valuable time to rest and look after her own wellbeing, which was essential in helping her continue in her caring role.

Sadly, my dad has now passed away, but what has meant so much to our family is that the team at Handle with Care have continued to keep in touch. Their ongoing kindness and concern demonstrate that they genuinely care about the people and families they support, not just while they are using the service, but beyond that as well.

We will always be grateful for the difference Handle with Care made to our lives. I would wholeheartedly recommend the service to any family affected by dementia. The compassion, professionalism and dedication of the team are truly exceptional.

Thanks,

Dean

I first met Phil, Janet, Alex and Donna pre Covid. My husband John had been diagnosed with Dementia. We had already lost his sister to the same awful disease.

Initially John and I coped well navigating the up and downs of Dementia. I continued to work as John was OK to leave at home. As time went on obviously things changed and I became lost in Joh’s world. Seeing a flyer for a new group starting up for people with Dementia and their family came at the right time for us.

John began attending the group every Friday which gave me time to myself knowing John was happy and being cared for in a safe environment. At the group John was always greeted with coffee in his own Chesterfield mug and biscuits (one of his favourites). During the day John would play games and do crafting he was very proud of his Christmas decoration which I still have and treasure.

When it came time to fetch John home he was always the last to leave as he had to say goodbye to everyone personally and he may also hive them a rendition of “We’ll meet again”. I was always informed of what day he had had. As Johns needs changed, the group adapted to meet those needs.

Sadly, I lost John in 2024 but with support I kept him at home with me. Phil and Alex continued to support me even though John was not attending the group.

I have recommended friends who have relatives with Dementia to check out this wonderful group. I continue to go to the group to play games and sometimes take a walk along the canal as it helps me feel connected to a place and the people John Loved and enjoyed seeing.

I have been a wife for just over 60 years. Celebrating our Diamond wedding in 2019 was very special. But some 3 years prior to that I was given a new label – Carer,  “Oh No” I said “I’m his wife not his carer. In sickness and in health you know!” But eventually I acceped that the new title was sadly so very true.

Some 6 months ago an advert in the local paper drew my attention to “Handle With Care Seniors” We decided to go along for a visit, met & chatted with staff and decided to accept a place. One day a week since then we have become part of a caring, supportive, friendly group of very experience people who really “Do Care”

Importantly my husband and I have both benefitted and something I had not initially expected.

So if you feel such a group could help your situation. Don’t hesitate, go ahead and get in touch with handle With Care seniors We are so very pleased that we did.

My husband has been attending ‘Handle With Care Seniors’ for over a year now.

Initially he was very hesitant to go and didn’t like me leaving him, however after a few weeks of spending time with Philip, Alex and the other wonderful ladies, it was evident that he was feeling happy and safe in an inclusive environment.

Very quickly Philip got my husband to chat about his life experiences, interests, likes and dislikes and tailored his approach of activities around this, valuing what he could achieve and always praising him positively.

On so many occasions Philip has gone out of his way to find literature and books of interest which he has given to my husband to enjoy. Over the weeks and months these books have been well read and looked at frequently which for me, has been so heartwarming to witness.

Philip has also designed activities for my husband to enjoy out in the fresh air, to help with his mobility.

No only has Philip supported my husband but also me with some very interesting books and videos about the mind, brain and music.

I’m simply delighted that we found this wonderful group of truly caring, positive people.

Thank You

Caroline
